Heynckes: Bayern are in top form

The Bavarian giants’ trainer was happy with his side’s amazing performance as they maintained their treble charge on course with win against Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup.

Bayern Munich head coach Jupp Heynckes was delighted with the way his players performed against Borussia Dortmund after the rematch of last term’s DFB-Pokal finalists was decided by Arjen Robben’s strike.

“We played well, aggressively, and we stood up to an opponent who played aggressively against us,” he added.

“We had games like this in Mainz and Wolfsburg where the opponent really fought, and it is a sign of quality that my team wins these matches,” the former Real Madrid coach added.

“Our supremacy in Germany has been confirmed,” he mused.

“The team played great football today. We have done a lot for it, but we are back on top here in Germany,” he said.

“I have no problem with Dortmund. They’re doing a great job. BVB have lifted us to a new level. We’ve seen the results today. We played perfect football,” he continued.

“It was an important goal, not just for me, but for the team,” Robben said.

“We wanted to win, we wanted to progress and we wanted to show how strong we are at the moment. We were successful with that,” he stated.

“We wanted to work well defensively, as in the previous weeks,” Lahm noted.

“We wanted to be fast [in getting] back, because we know that [the counter-attack] is where Dortmund is very strong,” he finally concluded.

The boss claimed that Der FCB were in great run of form and defended well against the attacking play of the BVB. He further added that FSV Mainz 05 and VfL Wolfsburg also showed a fighting spirit like Dortmund, but his team did well to win the vital clash.
