Major League Baseball Update/ News

The New York Yankees have made first potential contract extension offer to their talented second baseman Robinson Cano which reportedly he turned down due some different personal reasons.

“We made a significant offer,’’ general manager Brian Cashman said. “I thought Hal [Steinbrenner] announced we made a significant offer. We have had a few conversations. I thought I was restating Hal’s stuff. If I said a little more, that’s all I am saying.”

Cashman added, “We are the team and we have the right to change our mind and adjust the policy, It’s not like it’s a country club and here is the code of conduct. We have had a history of doing things a certain way but it doesn’t mean you have to do it that way every way. … Whatever conversations, however you want to define with Robby recently, aren’t new and different.”

Cano’s agent Scott Boras was also not agreed as he advised his client to reject the offer. Later he also came out in the media and told reporters.

“I am not going to talk about how Cashman characterizes things,’’ Boras said. “We agreed to listen and talk to them. We want Robinson to play. We will continue our talks.”

Recently some media personals also talked to Yankees’ part owner Hal Steinbrenner who explained the recent situation.

“We expressed to Scott what a great Yankee he has been and we hope he continues his career here for a long time to come. We indicated to him on a very preliminary basis that we were willing to consider a significant long-term contract,’’ New York owner Hal Steinbrenner said.

Cano, who is an eight-year Major League veteran and knows his game pretty well, clearly understood the situation as rejected the Yankees’ offer. Since coming into the big league, he has not played even elsewhere except with the Yankees.

Getting four-time All Star achievement is his illustrious career so far, Cano has also great numbers. His career batting average is consistent at .308 along with 177 home runs, 715 RBIs and .351 OBP.

Not only he has great career numbers but he played wonderfully in the last Major League outing in which he did a wonderful job batting an average of .313 along with 33 home runs, 94 RBIs and .379 OBP.
