Ozil: Real Madrid are in top form

The Germany international feels that Los Blancos are favourites to defeat Manchester United, and is happy with his side’s domestic win against Barcelona this term

Real Madrid creative midfielder Mesut Ozil is hoping that they qualify for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final by beating English Premier League side Manchester United. They two teams play at Old Trafford on Tuesday after Madrid drew 1-1 at home in the first leg.

The attacking midfielder claimed that it will be a tough game against a strong side, but said they have proved they are the team to beat. He stated that Blancos made more chances and dominated the game in the opening half. He suggested that if they can beat Barca, they can definitely beat Manchester United.

“It’s going to be a difficult match against a really good squad, but we already showed what we’re capable of in the first leg. We were clearly better in the first half, with loads of chances,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

“We have great respect for United but we aim to play our game; that way we can beat anybody. If you can win in Barcelona, you can win in Manchester,” he added.

“I love playing against the best every day. Everyone’s watching. Playing against Barcelona is an enormous motivation. The Clasico has huge repercussions and eliminating them from the Copa was fantastic,” he mused.

“We’ve proved that we can play against them strength to strength. We won the Super Cup against them and we’ve eliminated them from the Copa. We’re proud,” he finally concluded.

Ozil said that he loves playing against the top teams as millions of people are watching you. He is a big fan of Clasico and was delighted after beating Barca in the Copa del Rey fixture last week.
