Zulfadli Zulkiffli stuns Suppanyu Avihingsanon in qualifying round of 2013 All England Open

Malaysia’s young but talented shuttler Zulfadli Zulkiffli played impeccable badminton in the qualifying round of Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships and thrashed Suppanyu Avihingsanon on March 5, 2013.

This Men’s Singles tussle was staged at the local badminton arena of Birmingham and it remained in full swing for 45 minutes.

The Malaysian campaigner established his grip by winning first set and then raised hands as victor after putting decisive figures of 22-20 and 21-15. Now he will lock horns with Tan Chun Seang in next stage of qualifying round.

In his opening match, Zulfadli took some time to read his rival’s strategy and kept trailing behind in the establishing rallies of first.

However, he did not take much time to employ an effective counterattack strategy. At first, he mounted pressure by clinching couple of consecutive points and then made a significant difference on the points table just before the interval.

At half time, he was in commanding position but then few blunders weakened his grip immediately after the break.

The Thai shuttler made a swift progress and levelled the score in third quarter of the set. Both contenders remained toe-to-toe in the final stage but then Zulfadli won this crucial game with 22-20 margin.

Next game was completely dominated by the Malaysian lad as he did not give his opponent even a single chance to comeback. He showed his intentions by unleashing a series of power packed strokes in the beginning.

Zulfadli finished first half of the set with a respectable total and then capitalised this psychological edge in latter part of the game.

Meanwhile, Suppanyu failed to come out of his competitor’s influence and surrendered after reading 15-21 score on the board.

With this straight-set victory, Zulfadli secured his berth in next stage of qualifying round.
