Wang Zhengming overpowers Du Pengyu to win Men’s Singles title at Swiss Open 2013

China’s young and talented player Wang Zhengming surprised everyone when he wrapped up Men’s Singles title after defeating his higher ranked compatriot Du Pengyu in the final match of Swiss Open 2013 in Switzerland, on Sunday, March 17.

The lofty Zhengming, who was seeded at number 11 in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, continued his giant killing performance in the final encounter and he demolished his top seeded challenger in a controlled manner in 47 minutes.

Zhengming proved that he is no more a second stringer in Chinese line up as he played with greater level of precision and remained successful in crushing his higher ranked compatriot in straight games with a decent total of 21-18 and 21-18.

On the other hand, the top seeded Pengyu failed to create pressure on his lower ranked country-mate at any stage of the match. He tried to play attacking badminton but failed to take any benefit and eventually went down in straight games with a respectable margin.

Zhengming played with outstanding control in his strokes and managed to control the driving seat from starting rallies of the first set.

The phenomenal variations in Zhengming’s shots assisted him to continue his superiority against his challenger on court.

The 11th seeded Zhengming did not show any sign of confusion in the arena and he remained in complete command of rallies until the end of first part.

After the break, Pengyu changed his tactics and increased his speed in all areas of the court. He played aggressive game and managed to make the score levelled.

However, in the ending points, Zhengming played with wonderful confidence and executed a few impressive shots that helped him to score ending points and wrap up the first games with a reasonable 21-18 score on the board.

In the following game, Zhengming played with comfortable speed without leaving any room for Pengyu at any stage and remained ahead at the opening stage.

Zhengming was impressively fast on court and he remained successful in setting up a superb gap until the one-minute interval.

The attacking and positive play in the ending part of second set assisted Zhengming to stay ahead and he wrapped up the set with a decent 21-18 score on the board.
