Seriously disappointed over team’s terrible show on tour to South Africa, Pakistan cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq has admitted that it is certainly an alarming situation for the side, and the players need plenty of improvement.

The Green Shirts collected a great deal of embarrassing in South Africa. They were hammered in the Test series, and faced 3-0 loss. Things started to look better when the Mohammad Hafeez-led crew thrashed the Proteas in the T20 battle.

But the momentum came to a halt very soon. The Men in Green lost the ODI series 2-3. The side’s performance in the final encounter was pathetic, as the batsmen could manage to score 205 only.

Misbah is really worried with the current scenario, and admitted that the situation is alarming. He explained that the performance in the ODIs was slightly better than Tests, but there are still a lot of areas to address.

“Those were disappointing series,” Misbah told reporters on the team’s arrival back home early Tuesday. “We were better in the one-dayers but couldn’t do much in the Tests and it’s an alarming situation where we need improvement in a lot of things.”

The skipper himself was the leading scorer for the side in ODIs, with 227 runs under his belt. The right-hander was not reluctant to admit that it was the batting department that let the side down against the South Africans.

“I think our batting struggled throughout the tour, whether it were the Tests or one-days but the pitches were such that even a top quality batsman like Hashim Amla (of South Africa) also struggled (in a few matches). We also played irresponsible shots and
we need to address our batting problems,” he added.

When asked about the rumours about a rift between him and T20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez, Misbah completely dismissed the reports, and stated that the side did not lose because of any rift.

A lot of former greats have demanded a total clean out in the side. But Misbah is not ready to make a remark on this, as he explained that it would the selectors’ job.

“It is up to the cricket board and the selectors to gauge the performance of the players. I can’t do that, everyone has seen who has performed,” he opined.
