PM asks Finance Ministry to check ‘hundi’ system

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Finance to streamline the banking system which will help in checking Hundi and increasing remittances from the Pakistani diaspora.

 

He issued the directives while receiving a comprehensive briefing on the state of Pakistan’s economy at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

 

It was the first official engagement of the Prime Minister a day after he was administered the oath as caretaker Prime Minister.

 

During the briefing the Prime Minister was apprised of the challenges being faced by the economy, the Prime Minister office said.

 

The Prime Minister was briefed about the current economic situation including, balance of trade, budgetary position and the role of remittances on the economy.

 

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso said that Pakistan is an agricultural country and ‘we should focus on this sector which has the potential to lift the overall economy of the country’.

 

The briefing was made by Secretary Finance Mr. Abdul Khaliq and was attended by senior officials of Prime Minister’s Secretariat and Ministry of Finance.

 

Meanwhile Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has taken notice of reports in the media about complaints made by people of Balochistan regarding frequent power outages.

 

He has instructed the Secretary Ministry of Water and Power and Chairman WAPDA to visit Balochistan and take all necessary steps to mitigate their grievances.

 

These directions were given by the Prime Minister during a presentation made to him by Ministry of Water and Power on the present energy situation in the country at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday.

 

The Prime Minister was briefed about the entire power chain including generation and distribution as well as the steps taken by the Ministry to minimize load-shedding in the country.

 

A detailed briefing was made by the Ministry of Water and Power on the present generation, demand and recovery position.

 

The Prime Minister directed the WAPDA authorities that correct bills should be sent to consumers which will remove grievances of the common man on this score.
