Having recovered from a career-threatening spine injury, Pakistan’s young left-arm spinner, Raza Hasan, is confident about his future and is not too fazed by the competition he has to face from Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman.

The 20-year-old cricketer, who came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country, represented Pakistan in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2010 in New Zealand. The cricketer from Sialkot impressed the selectors in domestic cricket and made his international debut during the T20 series against Australia in United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year.

The young left-arm spinner made a name for himself during the ICC World T20 2012 in Sri Lanka, performing exceptionally well against top teams of the world cricket like South Africa, Australia and India.

Hasan was diagnosed with a spine injury after the World T20 and missed the tours of India and South Africa. However, the budding cricketer has returned to competitive cricket after almost four months during the on-going Faysal Bank Super 8 T20 Tournament 2013 in Lahore, representing Sialkot Stallions.

The talented spinner expressed that he is now taking his fitness seriously and does not want to miss any international cricket in future.

“It was a major blow but with the timely treatment I am back in shape,” Hasan said. “I was a bit reckless earlier with my injury and I let it linger on, but now after the operation I am taking extra caution to take care of myself with proper gym sessions and back exercise.”

Pakistan is currently lucky to have the services of two other quality left-arm spinners in shape of Abdur Rehman and Zulfiqar Babar. However, Raza is confident about his future in international cricket because he has the age on his side.

He added, “I am not really worried on being pushed back on return of Abdur Rehman or others as I don’t think I will be competing with anyone. The only completion I am facing is with my own self and I need to improve myself from here. I am young and have plenty of time ahead of me [to do the needful], rest is in the hands of the selectors.”
