Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly is all praise for Sunil Narine, and said that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mystery spinner is a man with golden arm. He described that the off-spinner will be Kolkata’s trump card in the ongoing sixth edition of the
Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ganguly’s remarks came in the wake of Narine’s fabulous show in the IPL opener. He scalped four wickets only for 13 runs in his four overs, and helped his side restrict Delhi Daredevils to a tiny total of 128.
The Delhi top-order consolidated the innings after losing an early wicket. David Warner scored 21 runs while captain Mahela Jayawardene went on to smash a classy knock of 66 runs. But there was no one to assist him.
Apart from Jayawardene and Warner, no Delhi batsman could touch the double figures. Narine was superb, as he bamboozled the opposition with his sharp spin. A target of 129 was never difficult for the star-studded Kolkata line-up.
After Mavinder Bisla’s early loss, Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis put the side back on track. Manoj Tiwary also added crucial 23 runs later in the innings. As a result, the Knight Riders comfortably achieved the target for the loss of four wickets with
eight balls to spare.
Narine was given the ‘Player of the Match’ award with his wonderful show with the ball. Ganguly, the former Kolkata skipper, said of the West Indian spinner at Eden Gardens on Wednesday:
"For (KKR skipper) Gautam Gambhir, he is the man with the golden arm. He was the person behind KKR’s success last season. He is their trump card this year as well. "I am pleased to see them playing so well.”
“I am happy for their victory. A win in the first match is always vital. Now, they need to build on this momentum. KKR’s bowling attack is definitely their strength. Surely they are one of the favourites."
On Gambhir’s brisk knock of 42 off 29 balls, the former left-handed batsman shared, "It’s just the beginning. Hope Gambhir holds on to his form for the next two months at least."
