Houwei Tian stamps Wei Feng en route to semi-finals of 2013 Australian Badminton Open

Men’s Singles event of Yonex Australian Badminton Open got another semi-finalist when Houwei Tian stamped Wei Feng Chong in the quarter-final round on Friday, April 5, 2013.

This encounter was staged at the local badminton arena of Sydney and it kept the audience intact for 42 minutes before ending with final result of 21-18 and 21-13.

Though, the fourth seeded Wei Feng had bright chances to claim a semi-final spot but the Chinese campaigner delivered a stunner and proved all the predictions wrong.

Young but talented Houwei Tian did not show any sign of bewilderment in front of a higher ranked rival and sealed splendid straight-set victory.

He laid foundation of his triumph by claiming the opening match point and then capitalised this lead in the final segment of showdown.

In first set of the match, Houwei Tian took some time to read his competitor’s strategy but he managed to establish a strong grip after few rallies.

He finished first half of the set with a competitive total and then managed to place a winning margin of 21-18 in second half of the set.

This first set win proved a real booster for him as he relished full benefits of this psychological edge in the following game.

This time the Chinese campaigner launched an intensive attack and confined Wei Feng in the rear court. He mounted pressure by pocketing few points in arrow and then magnified the impact by putting a respectable total of 11 before the interval.

After the one-minute break, the Malaysian shuttler showed some spark and narrowed the gap on points table but then the opposing shuttler put his expedition to halt.

Houwei Tian registered an impressive figure of 21-13 and secured a semi-final berth in Men’s Singles event of Australian Open.
