An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted most parts of the country’s northwest early Saturday, the metrological department said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 75 km, was in the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

There was no report of any casualty and damage.

The metrological department said that the quake jolted Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Abbotabad, Swat valley, Chitral and most parts of northern areas.

The tremors were also felt in the capital Islamabad.

The people were asleep when the quake rattled the country, forcing some people to awake and come out of homes.

TV footage showed people standing outside on roads.
