Election Commission begins hearing of fake degrees

The Election Commission of Pakistan Saturday started hearing of fake degrees of former members of the parliament, who are also in the field for the upcoming polls.

 

CEC Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim is presiding over the meeting being attended by four members of the ECP in Islamabad.

 

The deadline, given to former legislators to get their degrees verified by the Higher Education Commission‚ expired Friday night.

The Supreme Court had given March 5 deadline to 183 former legislators for verification of their degrees. However‚ 1028 of them could not get their degrees validated by the HEC.

 

Talking to newsmen‚ HEC Chairman said degrees of 77 members have been verified‚ while 5 more are under scrutiny. He said 100 ex-legislators have not contacted the HEC.

 

Those who have failed to get their degrees verified face disqualification.

 

Meanwhile the Election Commission has completed scrutiny of over 20‚000 nomination papers for national and provincial assemblies, officials said Saturday.

 

The Commission had received 23‚698 nomination papers filed by the contesting candidates of national and provincial assemblies for the next general elections.

 

After completing the scrutiny‚ the commission has sent back 20‚729 nomination papers to the concerned returning officers.

 

The process of scrutiny will be finalized by Sunday (April 7).

 

In another development the ECP has written letters to all provincial CECs for implementation of LHC verdict regarding ROs unnecessary questions, DG ECP Sher Afgan said Thursday.

 

The PPP senator Aitzaz Ahsan has said that religious questions should not be part of the scrutiny process.

 

Talking to media in Lahore‚ he said questions could rather be asked regarding the assets owned by candidates. He said action should be taken against the tax defaulters.

    i did not under sand that one codidate is not able toprotest his election in one area but the same man is clear for election is it that not frome pakitan area if yes then not allow to protest election frome anypakistan area plz
