2013 Major League Baseball Regular Season First Half – News/ Updates

Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a humiliating 9-3 defeat from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, April 09 at Petco Park, San Diego in California.

Dodgers’ pitchers were destroyed by the lethal Padres hitters. Overall the Dodgers received nine runs which were enough for the Padres to seal the win in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter.

“We didn’t play well on the trip. But our guys have a lot of resolve to play well, We’re going to mark `em. There’s the one, Let’s hope we get the majority of them. Will didn’t need the new park with his,” Padres manager Bud Black said in detail.

He added, “Will had a good game. That was great swing in the first inning off of Beckett, and a good at-bat against the lefty. Got it in the right part of the park.”

Padres’ right fielder Will Venable stayed calm on the plate on his three at bats as he scored two runs and ran for four RBIs.

“We were all excited to be home and looking forward to playing a good game,” Venable said. “We wanted to be aggressive and we made all the plays we were supposed to today and it worked out for us.”

Along with good hitting, the Padres pitchers also performed very well and showed their true offensive game. Starter Clayton Richard pitched five innings’ spell and received just two runs on eight hits.

On the other hand, the Dodgers pitching lineup could not even maintain their valour and lost bitterly in the end. Josh Beckett started the game for the Dodgers and allowed three runs on 4.91 ERA.

“We have to do a better job, myself included, when we get two outs,” Beckett said. “The Venable home run, you’d like to have that pitch back, but really the two-out groundball, those are tough to swallow.”

Later in the game manager Don Mattingly said for his starter, “He’s going to be around the plate and give up his share of hits, But he keeps himself in the game.”

On the whole, the Padres won this particular game with huge margin but this will be more important as how they will play in the next two games as the Dodgers are also preparing hard for their next clash on Wednesday night.
