US threatens Karzai to death: Afghan senator

An Afghan senator has claimed that the United States has threatened President Hamid Karzai to death if he refused signing of security pact.

Senator Abdul Qayum, who was speaking at an Afghan TV programme claimed that the foreigners have threatened President Karzai if he does not sign the bilateral security agreement with the US very soon, they will assassinate him. “But till now the president and his colleagues did not express their idea about the issue,” the report said.

Karzai suspended talks with the US over security pact following the opening of the Taliban office in Qatar.  Afghan government had accused the US of having contradictory approach towards the peace process.

For last few years, the relationships between President Karzai and the US has ups and downs and the news of pressure over Karzai for signing the security agreement between the US and Afghanistan has published in national and international media, but the news of direct and indirect threatening of President Karzai to death by foreigners, especially the US, is something new in media.

Maybe President Karzai wants to sign the agreement with the US, or by creation of such rumors he wants to make a way to prevent his guilt if there was a problem in the security agreement in the future, and show that he has signed the agreement because of the threatening of the US and the US has forced him to sign it.

Another prediction is that the US may have threatened President Karzai and he has taken it serious. Therefore, he wants to keep himself safe from the threatening of the US by keeping it a secret, for example if there is an attack performed on him, so earlier he has claimed the US on it that would be dangerous for him.

Senator of Nooristan Province in Mishrano Jirga Hafiz Abdul Qayum was speaking at Kabul News, a private television owned by the head of the presidential office Abdul Karim Khuram. Afghan media says that such a topic could not be issued without informing the president.
