Afghan soldier kills two colleagues in Konar

An Afghan soldier has killed a soldier and an officer and wounded another soldier and he managed to escape, Afghan media reported Monday.

The incident occurred in the Kandgal area of Manugai District of Konar Province Sunday evening, an army spokesman, Harun Yusofzai, told Afghan Islamic Press news agency.

He added: “A national army soldier opened fire at other soldiers at a security checkpoint. As a result, one soldier and an officer were killed and another soldier wounded. The attacker fled the area.”

Yusofzai said that they had no information about the fugitive soldier yet.

The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mojahed said the attacking soldier had joined them.

Mojahed added: “The infiltrated mojahed’s name is Ebrahim. He joined the Taliban with a Kalashnikov [assault rifle] after the attack.”

This has not been the first time that those national army and police soldiers, who attack their own friends, have joined the Taliban, because tens of such cases have happened in the past as well.

Also, in many incidents, the attackers, who have attacked the foreigners, have joined the Taliban. An Afghan soldier, who attacked the foreign forces in the air forces’ brigade in Kandahar, escaped from prison with the help of another soldier 19 days ago and joined the Taliban, and the Taliban published his video interview five days ago.
