PTI condemns storming of Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi

Central Information Secretary PTI, Dr Shireen Mazari, has strongly criticized the storming of Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi by protestors on Wednesday.

Dr Mazari pointed out that the Pakistan High Commission was located in a Diplomatic Area and there is extensive security present all around, so these attackers of the Youth Congress could not have gotten through without the acquiescence of the police and government.

She stated that there are international treaties’ protecting diplomats and diplomatic missions and India is a party to these. Therefore it is the duty of the Indian government to ensure the safety of Pakistani diplomats.

“Unfortunately the Indian government first spread the rumour about Pakistani troops having killed 5 Indian troops in Indian Occupied Kashmir despite the Pakistani state and government having categorically denied having been involved.”

She said The incident happened well inside The Occupied Territory and Pakistani troops always stay on their side of the LoC. It has been the Indian side that has violated the LoC especially in recent times, including firing across it as well as across the international border with Pakistan. Again, Dr Mazari reminded, that it has been India that most recently was also guilty of violating Pakistan’s air space over Sialkot with a drone.

Dr Mazari condemned in the strongest terms, this latest attack on Pakistan in the form of a physical attack on its High Commission in New Delhi. This is part of the history of Indian physical attacks against Pakistani diplomats in New Delhi, including on our present Foreign Secretary while he was serving in New Delhi, she added.

She pointed out that recently Indian belligerency against Pakistan has increased tremendously with violations of air space, firing across LoC and international border and with increased efforts to steal Pakistan’s river water, especially the Chenab, in clear violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.

She blamed the present PML-N government which has decided to go on the path of a one way appeasement policy towards India despite hostile signalling increasing from New Delhi. She said it was shameful to see the present government talk of opening up trade with India and buying electricity from India, when the response from the other side has been hostile and often violent.

Dr Mazari insisted that detente and peace cannot come from appeasement but must be based on political conflict resolution and mutuality of interests. The Nawaz government needs to understand this basic principle before it is totally swayed by its business interests at the cost of the safety and security of Pakistan and its people.
