Indian army kills another Pakistani soldier in three days

Pakistan army says that Indian troops Thursday killed another soldier along the Line of Control in three days.

An army statement said soldier Habib was killed when the Indian forces again resorted to unprovoked firing in Rakhchakri Sector near Rawalakot at Line of Control.

“The Indian Army has been continuously violating the ceasfire agreement of 2003 at LoC,” the statement said.

It is the second Pakistan soldier died in the Indian firing in three days. An army captain was killed when Indian troops shelled Pakistani posts late Tuesday.

There have been escalations along the LoC in recent days despite a ceasefire declared by both countries in 2003.

Both accuse each other of the ceasefire violations as exchange of fire claimed lives of soldiers of both countries.

Pakistan’s highest defence forum Tuesday strongly emphasized that the ceasefire should be maintained in letter and spirit.

“All military and diplomatic channels should be used to prevent ceasefire violations. It was emphasized that Pakistan will also continue to seek dialogue and resolution of all outstanding issues with India peacefully,” a statement after the meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) said.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over the meeting attended by services chiefs and key ministers to discuss matters relating to national security, officials said.

The DCC received a briefing on the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and took note of the continued violations of the ceasefire.

“Pakistan’s policy of restraint and responsibility was highlighted,” a statement said. The Committee condemned in the strongest terms the unprovoked firing along the LoC on Tuesday which killed Army Captain Sarfraz.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan was facing formidable challenges domestically while far-reaching developments were taking place in the region. The DCC provided the platform to deliberate on these issues and craft an appropriate response.

The DCC deliberated in detail on the evolving situation in Afghanistan and decided to contribute positively to peace and security as well as progress and prosperity in the region.

“Pakistan will fully support the international community’s efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. Pakistan will also work to comprehensively upgrade its bilateral relations with Afghanistan in all dimensions,” the statement said.

The meeting was attended by Ministers for Finance, Information and Interior, Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff and Chief of Naval Staff.
