Imran defends election rigging charges in court’s reply

Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Imran Khan has defended his stance over the judiciary role in the alleged election rigging in a new reply he has filed in the Supreme Court in contempt of court case.

A three-member Supreme Court bench will hear a contempt case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday.

According to the SC cause list‚ the bench headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has been constituted to hear the case as the bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is not available in Islamabad. Other members of the bench are Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain.

The Supreme Court had issued the contempt notice to the PTI Chairman for allegedly scandalizing the judiciary and spreading hatred against the judges during a news conference on July 26.

The notice was taken on a note written by the Supreme Court Registrar under Article 204 read with Section 3 of the Contempt of Court Ordinance‚ 2003.

Imran Khan appeared before the court on August 2 and submitted the reply‚which was not accepted by the court. The hearing was adjourned for August 28 on the request of Hamid Khan‚ counsel for the PTI Chairman.

The apex court also issued a notice to the Attorney General for Pakistan Munir A Malik to appear before it on August 28.
