Pakistan opposes any attack on Syria, says Interior Minister

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the National Assembly Pakistan opposes any attack on Syria as any such action will against its sovereignty.

He aid that Syria is an independent and sovereign country and Pakistan cannot support any action against it.

He said Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz will brief the House on Friday about Pakistan’s stance on this issue as well as other matters.

Earlier Pakistani Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the use of chemical weapons by Syria government against rebel forces.

Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmed in weekly briefing said despite the use of chemical weapons the sovereignty of Syria must be respected.

Meanwhile on Karachi situation‚ the Interior Minister said a special meeting of the Cabinet will be held at Governor House in Karachi Tuesday to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the provincial metropolis.

Opposing handing over of Karachi to Army‚ he said this will be disrespect to the mandate of the Sindh Government‚ assuring that all the steps will be taken after consultation with the provincial government. He said time has come to divulge facts to the nation as situation in Karachi will not improve through speeches and point-scoring.

He said he has prepared a framework for bringing improvement in Karachi‚ which will be presented before the special meeting in Karachi. Sharing broad contours of the framework‚ Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said law and order is a provincial subject and it will have to take all the steps for improvement in situation.

He said there is a need of a targeted operation in Karachi against extortionists‚ criminals and kidnappers for ransom. He also wants establishment of a monitoring committee under the supervision of Chief Minister Sindh to oversee the targeted operation. This committee should comprise of politicians‚ senior media persons and senior citizens of Karachi.

Responding to the criticism of the opposition members over the absence of the Ministers from the House‚ Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said it is the collective responsibility of both the treasury and opposition benches to ensure smooth functioning of the House. He assured that the government will always implement the proposals to be floated by this House.
