Influential Russian President Vladimir Putin has overthrown United States President Barack Obama as the world’s most powerful person according to the list released by Forbes Magazine, breaking the latter’s run of three years at the top.

Obama has slipped to the number second, and is followed by the all powerful Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The ranking reflect the influence of Putin in first offering asylum to NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden and then averting US efforts to launch an attack on Syria. He was also pivotal in forcing Syria to dispose off of all its chemical weapons through a deal, the first phase of which has been completed.

Obama on the other hand has been weakened by a 16-day U.S. government shutdown and his inability to force the US will in Syria’s case.

The complete list is as under;

1) Vladimir Putin, Russian President

2) Barack Obama, US President

3) Xi Jinping, Chinese President

4) Pope Francis, Roman Catholic Church

5) Angela Merkel, German Chancellor

6) Bill Gates, co-chair, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

7) Ben Bernanke, Federal Reserve chairman

8) Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud

9) Mario Draghi, European Central Bank president

10) Michael Duke, Wal-Mart CEO
