After United Nations became the latest entity to blame the United States for spying on its secret matters, the US government has moved to qualm all such concerns.

On Wednesday, the US government officials assured the United Nations that its secret communications were never intercepted by US National Security Agency.

United Nation spokesman Martin Nesirky also shed some light on the issue, which comes at a time when the United States is already facing the music from allies in Europe, especially Germany and France, for spying.

“I understand that the US authorities have given assurances that United Nations communications are not and will not be monitored,” Nesirky told reporters.

“The inviolability of diplomatic missions, including the United Nations, has been well established in international law and therefore all members states are expected to act accordingly,” Nesirky added.

The UN spokesperson however refrained from answering question specifically related to Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. Although much of the spy furor has been due to the NSA documents leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden, these allegations were brought into light by German news weekly Der Spiegel back in August. The weekly had asserted that UN information was compromised in mid-2012 and weeks later, United States decoded hundreds of confidential UN communications.
