Indian Foreign Minister says results of meetings with Pakistan are disappointing
Monday, November 11th, 2013 3:31:21 by Ahmad MehdiSpeaking in an interview, Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid shared that despite the warm gestures shown between the two neighbouring countries, India and Pakistan, their talks and meetings don’t show positive results.
Responding to Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif’s claim last month to do more for peace between the two countries, Salman Khurshid said, “Pakistan has a lot of very, very difficult issues to deal with at home. Our view is that we should give them time, not at our cost, of course, but that we should give them the benefit of the doubt. When Mr. Nawaz Sharif says he wants peace and good relations with India, we take him at his word.”
The Indian Foreign Minister believes that Pakistan needs to deal with several issues, including terrorism, before any fruitful discussions can take place and steps can be taken to better relations between the neighbouring nations.
Speaking about India’s relationship with China, the Indian Foreign Minister expressed optimism but cited the Himalayan border issue as a matter of concern for both countries.
Historically, India and Pakistan have not shared the best of relations to say the least, a bitter partition and wars inflicted wounds, both physical, financial and emotional on the two nations, and while politicians have long been hinting at improving relations, both sides have certain issues that need to be addressed by the other before things can get better.
