Nasiruddin Haqqani killed in a shooting incident in Pakistan

According to various sources, the son of Haqqani Network’s leader, Jalaluddin Haqqani was killed in a shooting incident in the Bhara Kahu area of Islamabad on Sunday night.

Nasiruddin Haqqani was around 30 years old and was in charge of the network’s financing, which meant he would travel a lot to the Middle East for donations.

It is still not know who shot him or why, but the city’s police confirmed there was a shooting incident in Bhara Kahu. Not one has yet claimed responsibility for his death either.

The dead body has reportedly been transported to the North Waziristan tribal area for burial and further details are yet to come.

Badruddin Haqqani, another of the Haqqani brothers was killed last year in a US drone strike, and now, after Nasiruddin’s death, their brother Sirajuddin will lead the group. Their father, Jalaluddin remains the figurative head however.

The Haqqani network has been a major player against the US forces operating in Afghanistan and the death of one of its main leaders on Pakistani soil is expected to add more pressure on the country.

Nasiruddin’s death comes just 10 days after a drone strike killed the leader of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, Hakimullah Mehsood.
