It was recently reported from Lahore that the Punjab local bodies’ elections have been challenged by the Lahore High Court on Friday.

There were rumours that the Punjab Local Bodies will hold their elections in the mid of January. However, they will be put on hold as the delegation that has challenged the LB elections claims that they cannot happen before the delimitation issue has been solved. Therefore, for now these elections have been put on hold by the responsible governing bodies.

Advocate Azhar Siddique was in charge of the case which was taking place in the Lahore High Court against the postponement of the local bodies elections. He filed a petition which stated that it will be unconstitutional and in contravention of the basic human rights if the local bodies elections were to be held before the decision on the delimitation issue.

A similar issue was present in the Sindh Government as well but it was sorted out and the local bodies elections in Sindh will be held in the mid of January.

The petition presented in the Lahore High Court has talks about Section 10-A of the Punjab Local Government 2013. They stated that it should be declared null and void and until and unless the final decision on the delimitation issue has been made, the elections should be put on hold.
