Musharraf’s Lawyer says Even the Lives of Judges are at Risk

Appearing before the three-judge special court bench on behalf of his client Pervez Musharraf, lawyer Ahmed Raza Kasuri said that given the security concerns surrounding the hearing, even the lives of judges are at risk.

The retired general and former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf is facing treason charges and did not appear in front of the special court today after his counsels petitioned for adjournment on security grounds. According to his lawyers, the government has failed to provide fool proof security for the former president’s transport.

Ahmed Raza Kasuri also said that if anything was to happen to Musharraf, the court will be responsible for it. Last week, when Musharraf was scheduled to appear before the court, explosives were recovered from the route he was supposed to take. More recently, more explosive material was recovered from outside Musharraf’s Chak Shehzad residence. 

However, Justice Faisal Arab stated that the court will continue to function in the face of any threats and perform its duty. 

The Prosecutor, Akram Sheikh, told the court that the government does have a plan for Musharraf’s safe transport and DIG Security also confirmed the same. However, upon inquiry, the DIG shared that they are providing Musharraf with a bullet proof vehicle but not one that is bomb proof.

It is expected that the court will make a decision regarding Musharraf’s security detail and while the decision is reached, Musharraf is not on bail.
