The retired General and former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, is undergoing treatment and medical tests at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), in Rawalpindi, after he complained of heart ache.

Musharraf, who was on his way for his treason trial hearing, complained of chest pain and was subsequently rushed to the hospital for medical tests. The doctors at AFIC reportedly took blood samples from the former President and sent them for examination.

According to reports, the former President is accommodated in a special at AFIC and even medical personnel are not allowed inside without supervision.

Earlier, when Musharraf was scheduled to appear for his hearing, explosive material was recovered from the route he was set to take and later from outside his Chak Shahzad farmhouse.

Amid security concerns, the former general was provided a security detail with 1,600 police and rangers personnel.

The timing of Musharraf’s heart pain has been brought into question by many, including the media. The PPP Chairman, Bilawal Zardari Bhutto also took to twitter to criticize Musharraf, and called him a coward for running away from his trial hearing.

The former General has been charged with treason, and if the special court convicts him, he might be facing the death penalty or life imprisonment.
