The former captain and wicketkeeper of Pakistan, Moin Khan, has been appointed as the chief selector and manager of the Pakistan Cricket team.

The renowned former player has been part of the management since the past two months in the capacity of head coach. However, now he is part of the 3-member panel in charge of evaluating coaching candidates for the team.

The chief selector’s seat has been vacant since Iqbal Qasim left 10 months back, and an interim panel has been functioning in his absence. Now the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint Moin Khan and former batsman Zaheer Abbas has also been engaged as principal advisor to Najam Sethi, the PCB Chairman.

Moin Khan was named chief selector last year as well, but his appointment was nullified by the Islamabad High Court, after which he was relegated to the team manager position.

Meanwhile, the interim panel, comprising of Azhar Khan, Farukh Zaman and Saleem Jaffar had been selecting teams till the end of the recent World T20.

The position of chief selector has been in contention lately, with Aamer Sohail appointed by the previous chairman Zaka Ashraf, who was then removed by Najam Sethi. Mohammad Ilyas was also considered for the role, but was not formally appointed. Former wicketkeeper and captain, Rashid Latif was in the running as well, but he refused to sign his contract due to differences with the board.

Now Moin Khan will be serving in his dual capacity, as both chief selector and manager of the Pakistan Cricket team.
