Ukrainian troops fight to quell the uprising in Slaviansk

Several checkpoints of pro-Russian militias in Slaviansk city in southeastern Ukraine, have been shot on Thursday, as reported Misroslav Rudenko, one of the leaders of the ” SDF ” Donbass coal basinl from Donetsk. At least five people have died in the clashes, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Interior. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned there will be “consequences ” and Kiev would be committing a serious crime against its people, if it is confirmed that the Ukrainian government has used the army against its own people in the east.

According to the Russian TV channel Rossiya 24, Ukrainian troops are advancing slowly towards Slaviansk, protected by armored units. Slaviansk, with about 120,000 inhabitants, is the stronghold of the pro-Russian uprising against the central government in Kiev that erupted nearly three weeks ago in the southeastern regions of Ukraine with majority of population speaking speaking.

Putin reacted to the movement of troops in the east. ” The operation will certainly punitive consequences for the people who have made that decision, and also to the relations between the two states,” Putin said. The Russian president also acknowledged that the international sanctions are causing damage to the country’s economy, but the damage is not sever in nature.

The Ukrainian government announced yesterday to resume the ” anti-terrorist operation ” against illegal armed formations in the southeast of the country.
