Pakistan Hockey Misses Deadline for Asian Games

It was recently reported from Lahore that the Pakistan Hockey Federation has missed the deadline to register for the Asian Games 2014 that are going to take place in Incheon, South Korea.

The sporting body of the Pakistani Hockey team was unable to send the entries before  the deadline date and now they are not going to take part in the competition altogether.

There were several issues with the Pakistani team registration. There are currently two sporting bodies in Pakistan who are both willing to send their own teams to the tournament. However, the international system only recognizes one body and they have only registered the teams which that particular body has sent abroad.

Pakistan Olympic Association stated that even though the Pakistani Hockey team has not registered yet, he is still willing to try if they approach them. While talking to the media the POA president said,

“Our doors for the Pakistan Hockey Federation are open, but still we want to receive the expression of interest from them.”

He further added,

“Though the number of athletes and officials are 200, it may be reduced in case any federation changes its programme in future.”

He also claimed that the issue of parallel governing sports body is illegal.
