An office bearer of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association stated that the flourmills of Punjab will observe a day’s token strike in solidarity with flourmills of Karachi, that have remained closed for seven consecutive days due to the indefinite shutter down strike against the Sindh Food Department.

Chairman of the PFMA, Chaudhary Muhammad Yousuf stated, “Members of the central executive committee of the association unanimously approved the decision of the token strike in a meeting. The meeting further resolved that the mills in Punjab will also go on indefinite shutter down strike from next Monday (May 5) if the token strike does not make Sindh food department to allow free movement of wheat from interior Sindh to factories in Karachi.”

Chairman of the PFMA, Mian Mehmood Hasan, arranged a meeting where several important personalities took part. He claimed that almost 50 representatives of the flourmills in Pakistan attended this meeting and they all agreed upon the decisions which were taken.

Sources claim that out of the 85 flourmills in Karachi, 81 have been observing a strike since 22nd April.

While talking about when they spoke last to the representatives of the flourmills, Yousuf said, “The last direct contact between the two parties took place before the strike began.”
