No concessions to the Muslim Brotherhood. This is one of the axes of the program Abdel Fatah al Sisi, former defense minister of Egypt and great favorite in the presidential elections to be held on 26th and 27th May. Al Sisi Monday appeared for his first television interview in which he revealed for the first time some of the central points of his political project. Since his meteoric rise in Egyptian politics, the retired quarterback has been more sparing in his public statements, merely praising the armed forces.

In the interview, Al Sisi accused the Brotherhood, the Islamist movement that ruled the country until the coup last summer, having threatened to unleash a wave of attacks by foreign militants if it was evicted from power. ” [ The Brotherhood ] are using Islamic armed groups as a front to fight through them,” he said, referring to the jihadi groups like Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which launched in the summer campaign of attacks against security forces that has resulted in the death of over 300 people.

When asked by one journalist if ” end ” with the Muslim Brotherhood, answered curtly: “That’s not for me… kill them, but the Egyptians.” His response to his election promises of the Arab nation raïs not entail a change of direction in the severe crackdown Islamist movement, which has seen hundreds of his followers died in acts of protest and his entire dome was imprisoned and judged under serious charges. In fact, its Supreme Guide, Mohamed Badie, was sentenced to death along with more than 600 people in a macro trial held recently in the province of Minia.

Another point of interest in the interview, broadcast by the country’s two most popular private channels was his position against the draconian law passed in November of demonstrations by the executive. The standard gives authority to the Interior Ministry to ban any demonstration and has been used to imprison some of the symbols of the revolution that overthrew Mubarak. Al Sisi championed this legislation appears necessary against ” irresponsible statements ” that threaten the State. Instead, his only opponent in the presidential courses, Hamdin Sabahi, has pledged to repeal the law if imposed in the elections.

The former defense minister reiterated the official narrative about his candidacy, denied political ambitions have treasured when deposing the former raïs Morsi on 3 July. “In the constitutional referendum, people not only vote for the Constitution, but to ask me to be president,” he said. During the first part of the interview airs today the second -, Al Sisi also talked about his family and growing up in a poor neighborhood of Cairo, posing as a devout Muslim and yet respectful of religious minorities.

Moreover, a court in Cairo banned the members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) of Hosni Mubarak from taking part in any election, whether local, parliamentary or presidential. The ruling, which is based on the repeated violations of the Constitution by the NDP, represents another example of the enormous influence of the courts in the political life of the country.

According to the roadmap of the authorities, it is expected that after the presidential election legislative elections, although there is still no specific date. With the absence of the NDP and the Muslim Brotherhood, outlawed and considered a “terrorist organization “, in legislative elections will not engage the two most powerful political machines in the country, which may open the door to the arrival of new faces to Egyptian politics.
