Memorial Museum to Honor Victims of 9/11

The transfer of the remains of unidentified victims of September 11 to their final resting place, the Memorial Museum built at the World Trade Center, at the foot of Tower One, has been kept secret until the last minute by the New York authorities. That did not stop Saturday that some family members will come to Ground Zero to protest silently with black jaws in the mouth against the transfer and express their anger at the decision to buried either in a basement.

Although wound in brutal 2001 attack on Manhattan is physically closed, the pain goes inside. It’s still a long process, dominated by delays and controversy. The opening ceremony of the Memorial Museum this Thursday will mark an important step forward. In the words of the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, ” the Museum is for everyone. For those who witnessed the event with their own eyes or on television, and still trying to make sense of the event. ” It also addresses future generations, says the alderman, that throughout history that recounts the sample understand that something terrible must not happen again again. But as De Blasio noted, especially is for survivors, families and staff who participated in the rescue. President Barack Obama will attend the opening ceremony Thursday.

Inside the coffin a small entourage moved to Ground Zero in a fire truck on Saturday were 7,390 human fragments. The official number of deaths after the collapse of the Twin Towers totals of 2,753 people, including the occupants of the two planes hijacked by terrorists and members of rescue aircraft. The remains of 1,115 victims were not identified. Now are back in the place where they breathed for the last time, hoping that technology can allow to identify them in the future.

But some family members do not realize that their remains be left until then in what is called to be one of the main tourist destinations in the city. As noted Sally Regenhard, who lost her firefighter son, ” should be in a more respectful place.”

As of Thursday, and for six days, the families of the victims visit the Memorial Museum, which will remain open for them 24 hours a day. Since May 21, the public will have access to a similar to other attractions such as the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty price. The initial idea was that the Memorial Museum had been open for the tenth anniversary of the attack. But then he could just inaugurated the park with cascading fountains surrounding it.

Some family members sent a letter to Obama voicing their opposition to the transfer of the remains to the Memorial Museum, although it will rest in a special place that only have access to victims’ families and coroners. They agree that they should return to the World Trade Center, but at a separate location, similar to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington.

Not only regret that you have not considered their opinion during the process, as indicated by Rosaleen Tallon, who lost a brother on September 11. What irks him is to think that the remains could not recover from their loved ones remain hidden underground. There are other family members, however, see fit to be deposited there and ask more political battle is not done with the matter.

Hope all of them in the end is the same: they are identified slowly all traces. The Memorial Museum consist of two samples. One explores the causes behind the attack and the story of that fateful day in New York. Another pays homage to those who died in the attacks on the Twin Towers. As Joe Daniels, president of the museum, explains will be a reminder of what can be accomplished when everyone joins forces in extraordinary circumstances.

The idea is to educate future generations while a part of the history of the city is safeguarded. To do this, the exhibition draws on testimony, photographs, videos and personal items. Last November the 4WTC opening ceremony was held, the first skyscraper that opened at Ground Zero. Still no date for the official ribbon cutting of One World Trade Center, the central building of the building complex. Also advance the works of the transport terminal designed by Santiago Calatrava.
