A day after winning the elections in India, the Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi has made a triumphal entry into the capital, New Delhi. Upon arrival from Gujarat, the state which ruled from 2001, he waited drumming. Hundreds of people gathered there, threw rose petals and balloons released upon arrival at the airport and the offices of his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has just ruled India.

It was a historic defeat of the Congress Party and the Gandhi family, who have been leading the second most populous country in the world most of its history since independence. Never before had obtained Congress Party as poor outcome: only 44 seats. Its popularity was diminished by rising prices, rampant inflation and corruption scandals. This Saturday, the outgoing prime minister, Manmohan Singh, has said that the Government has made great strides in the 10 years that have been in power. And wished Modi luck as next Executive.

Modi, who has met with the leadership of his party to plan his government has been quick to show their appreciation to the supporters of the BJP: “This victory is dedicated to the sacrifices of generations of loyal party workers have been working without break since 1952. This is the fruit of your blessings, prayers and hard work, ” he said.

Modi and his party managed the majority needed to govern alone, but have some allies. Analysts believe that the landslide is that the Hindu nationalist is considered as a strong leader and will help the Indian economy to recover. Sources say that his party could take possession next week.

Modi was also congratulated by international leaders. Hours after learning the results, the U.S. president, Barack Obama, called the winner of the elections, as reported by local newspapers. Obama told Modi that would be welcome in America. It is a very significant step approach to Hindu nationalist American country. Since 2005, he had been denied a visa by the wave of violence that took place in Gujarat in 2002, in which a thousand people, mostly Muslims were killed. The Supreme Court said there was insufficient evidence to frame him, but a part of society believed to have some responsibility, at least for failing to punish those responsible.

“We congratulate Narendra Modi and the BJP to win the majority of seats in these historic elections. Once the government is formed, we hope to work together with the prime minister and his cabinet to advance our bilateral relationship based on shared democratic values, “said press secretary Jay Carney White House.

U.S. interested in India as a counterweight to China in the region and a major trading partner, arms buyer and close to installing nuclear plants to produce electricity.

But not only the U.S. and the EU have approached Modi. Also neighbors and rivals China and Pakistan have welcomed the next prime minister. Although some experts fear a possible increase in tension with arch rival Pakistan, very dangerous because the two countries are nuclear powers, Modi has said it will continue with the policy of the former BJP prime minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, who served between 1998 and 2004. Though India conducted several nuclear tests during that time, then also began peace negotiations.
