Finance Minister Proposes 10% Increase in Salaries of Government Employees

Pakistan Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, has proposed 10 % hike in the salaries of the government employees during the budget speech in the Pakistan National Assembly on Tuesday June 3, 2014.  The Minister also proposed to increase the minimum wages of workers from RS10,000 to Rs12,000 per month. The recipient of the monitory support under the Benezir income support program will receive RS1500 per month with an increase of RS300.

Ishaq Dar announced the allocation of  Rs205 billion for the electric power generation projects indicating government’s priority to reduce the power shortage in the country.

Pakistan Railway will be receiving RS77 billion for 45 various schemes. Purchase of 500 new railway engines and 1500 new rail cars during the next five years are proposed.

Higher education sector will get RS 63 billion which is an increase of 10% compared to the last year.

Finance Minister claimed that the financial deficit for the current fiscal year has been kept at 4.9 per cent whereas the inflation rate is brought down to 6.8 per cent.
