China to Develop and Finance Airport in Gwadar

It was recently reported from Islamabad that China is willing to finance an airport in the port city of Balochistan, Gwadar.

The development in this particular port city has always been halted due to the fact that there are certain security concerns. At times the locals and sometimes foreign militants interfere with the matters that are taking place in Gwadar. The city has a lot of potential if the port is well-developed and this is something that Pakistan and China fully understand at the moment.

China currently needs a port for themselves so that they can target other countries through Pakistan and their seashores. On the other hand, Pakistan needs Gwadar in order to shift the burden from Kimari.

For now it is being reported that Pakistan and China are willing to collaborate in order to make an airport in Gwadar.  There is a $35million Pak-China Economic corridor.

Planning and Development Secretary Hassan Nawaz Tarar told a Senate committee, “Special board has been established to oversee the construction of Gwadar airport.”

Pakistan People’s Party Senator Fateh Mohammad Hassani alleged that land for the airport — worth Rs100 million — had been purchased at Rs1.5 billion.

However, the plan has been accepted by the Pakistani government and the work is expected to start later this year.
