Rana Shoaib Idrees, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Punjab, was granted protective bail by Lahore High Court on Thursday July 24, 2014. MPA is allegedly involved in a raid on a Police Station in Faisalabad along with his henchmen, however, it was reported that his name was not included in the First Information Report (FIR). Rana Shoaib was granted the protective bail till August 11, however, police is allowed to investigate him during this period.

The lawyer of MPA filed the bail plea in Lahore High Court which was heard by two member bench comprising of Justice Mazhar Siddhu and Justice Shehzada Mazhar.

Rana Shaoib’s lawyer argued that his client’s name was not in FIR and cases registered against him were politically motivated.  The lawyer further told the court that Rana Shoaib Idrees went to the police station to see one of his friend but policemen “mistreated” him. Muslim League Nawaz MPA denied all the allegations in the court.

Lahore High Court granted him protective bail after hearing the arguments from both sides and adjourned the case till August 11. However, Court allowed police to question Rana Shoaib if required for the investigation of the case.

After the Court decision, MPA told reporters that all the allegations against him were pack of lies and he neither raided the station nor thrashed any policemen.

He explained that one policeman fired a gun shot at him and other people outside the police station. Consequently people started beating him, however, he saved the policeman from the crowd and took him along with his gun inside the police station for filing case against him for indiscriminately firing.

Rana Shoaib further said that police has detained his other family members and alleged that police might kill him in a “police encounter”.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had ordered police to arrest Rana Shoaib Idrees after receiving the reports from the inquiry committee that MPA was involved in the incident of raiding the police station and getting his henchman freed from the police custody.
