Rana Sana Ullah decided to carry operation in Model Town

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said in a statement on Saturday that decision to remove barriers outside Dr. Tahirul Qadri’s residence in Model Town was made in a meeting that was chaired by then Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah. Shahbaz Sahrif’s affidavit was submitted to the judicial tribunal investigating the Model Town tragedy. The tribunal has concluded its inquiry and tribunal will submit its findings later.

Judicial Tribunal comprising of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi had asked for Shahbaz Sharif’s statement regarding the Model Town tragedy by 11:30AM on Saturday.

Punjab Advocate General submitted Punjab Chief Minister’s affidavit which was read aloud during the proceedings of the tribunal.  CM Punjab said in the affidavit that he contacted his principal secretary Dr. Tauqeer about the operation after hearing about it on television news channels. Dr. Tauqeer informed him that decision to remove barriers was made during high officials meeting chaired by then Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah.

Dr. Tauqeer also informed him about the deaths of the protesters during the firing by the police.

Chief Minister convened a meeting of Punjab ministers and decided to removed Rana Sana Ullah and Dr. Tauqeer and form an inquiry tribunal to investigate the incident. It was also decided to provide best medical treatment to the persons wounded in the Model Town tragic incident.

Judicial Tribunal concluded its proceedings and closed the inquiry after receiving the Punjab CM affidavit.  The Tribunal will submit the report on its findings of the inquiry later.

Police firing killed 14 people including women and wounded 80 persons during clashes with the protesters who were resisting the removal of security barriers outside the residence of Dr. Tahirul Qadri and Minhajul Quran International secretariat in Model Town.
