Navi Pillay

The High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay has accused Israel on Thursday of violating international law in its fight against Hamas. Since last week, at a Council meeting in which member countries participated, the Commissioner noted that some of the Israeli attacks would violate international law. Pillay has condemned the Army attacks againstĀ  civilian homes, schools, hospitals and UN. “None of them [the attacks] seems accidental. Seem willfully defy the obligations of international law,” she said.

Pillay loaded against the U.S. for his repeated vetoes against resolutions critical of Israel in the Human Rights Council, the General Assembly and the Security Council of the UN. “They have not only provided heavy weapons that Israel is now using in Gaza, but have also contributed one billion dollars for the ‘ Iron Dome ‘. Gazans have not received any such protection. “

The High Commissioner has indicated that it expects “accountability or justice” of Israeli actions. It is clear from the lack of adequate investigation in Israel. Nor has there been any attempt by the international community to implement the recommendations of the Fact-Finding Mission of the United Nations in Gaza Conflict.

Wednesday, was the bloodiest day of the military offensive in Gaza: Israeli warplanes and tanks has killed 119 Palestinians and wounded 500, as reported by medical sources in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army attacked one of the UN shelters in Jabalia, northern Gaza, killing 16 Palestinians, at least six of them children; the center hosted over 3,200 people sheltering in the UN enclave of the military offensive. Hours later, another attack on the oil market in the eastern district of Shiyaiya, where Israeli troops operate killed 17 Palestinian civilians. Israel had declared that ceasefire did not affect areas where military operations were in progress. The Israeli army said that it will investigate incidents.

Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive, 1,349 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,500 injured. Mostly, according to Palestinian emergency services and family. Hamas has killed 56 Israeli Army soldiers and three civilians on the side of Israel.
