Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started to resume the mobile phone services on the instructions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the Islamabad Red Zone area on August 14, 2014.

The cellular services including the mobile internet services were shut down on August 13, 2014 after direction from Interior Ministry on possible terrorism threats.

Red Zone area of Islamabad includes Parliament House, Prime Minister office, Supreme Court, Secretariat, Presidency, Judicial Colony, Serena Chowk, Embassy Road, and Marriot Hotel.

The long marches of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek towards Islamabad were one of the reasons for the suspension of the mobile phone services.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has today instructed PAT to restore the mobile phone and internet services.
