Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday August 19, 2014 to discuss the current security situation in the country.

It is reported that senior political and defense leadership discussed the measures to diffuse the tension in the national capital arising from the protest rallies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek.

General Raheel Sharif briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the North Waziristan Tribal area against the militants.

Nawaz Sharif informed COAS about the steps taken by the government to diffuse the political tension by initiating dialogue with the protesting politicians Imran Khan and Dr. Tahirul Qadri.

Imran Khan had announced marching into the high security area of Islamabad along with his supporters to register his protest against alleged rigging in the 2013 elections. Imran Khan and Dr. Qadri are demanding resignation of Nawaz Sharif.
