Inspector General Islamabad police Aftab Ahmed Cheema has been sacked according to media reports, however, government official said that Cheema has gone on leave.

Government spokesperson reportedly told reporters that IG Police Mr. Cheema had held a meeting with the interior secretary and had requested the government to allow him to proceed on leave which was accepted.

DIG Headquarters Khalid Khattak has been given charge as acting IG Islamabad police to replace Aftab Ahmed Cheema.  The reasons of Islamabad police head removal are not known.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri has alleged that Cheema was removed from the position for not stopping the protesters to enter the Red Zone.

Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI), has also claimed that Aftab Cheema is replaced because he refused to open fire on the protesters.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had reportedly instructed the security personals not to stop the protesters enter the red zone because of the presence of women and children in the rallies of PTI and PAT.
