A man dies after a shooting at a mosque in Switzerland

A man has died after a shooting at a mosque in the Swiss town of Winkeln in the canton of St. Gallen in the northeast. By going to the scene around 2 pm, the cantonal police have found the body of man in the prayer room of the El-Hidaje religious center. Police spokesman stated Gian Andrea Rezzoli public channel SFR that “a person with a gun was arrested without resistance.”

Police are continuing their inquiries and has not advanced the identities or motives of the event. The newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung notes that the mosque is the biggest Albanian-speaking Muslim community in the canton of St. Gallen, with about 350 members.
