Nawaz Sharif apologize over Model Town tragedy

It is reported by a news channel that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed his apologies over the tragic incident of Model Town Lahore to Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday August 24, 2014 through Federal Minister for Railways, Saad Rafiq.

Saad Rafiq met with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri in Islamabad to covey the message from the Prime Minister of Pakistan. According to reports, the Federal Minister conveyed Nawaz Sharif’s apology to Dr Qadri over the tragedy of Lahore Model Town.

The meeting is expected to ease the deadlock between government and Pakistan Awami Tehreek.

Dr. Tahirul Qadri along with his supporters is staging a sit-in outside Parliament House, Islamabad demanding removal of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif from power and creating a national government.

At least 14 people were killed and over 100 injured when police opened fire on the protesters resisting demolition of security barriers outside residence of Dr. Tahirul Qadri in Model Town Lahore earlier in June 2014.
