Pakistan cricket team failed dismally in the third and series decisive One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka on Saturday August 30, 2014. Host defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets after 18 overs. Pakistan cricketers could only manage to put 101 on the scoreboard.
Pakistan captain Misbahul Haq won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that was expected to help the spinners but a total of 250 was possible to set as a winning target. None of the Pakistan batsmen could face the Sri Lanka bowlers with confidence. Poor selection of shots and going for big shots by all the Pakistan batsmen resulted in the lowest total of 101 against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka was able to reach the target in 18th over with 7 wickets in hand. Sri Lanka scored 104 for the loss of 3 wickets in 18.2 overs.
“Fawad and I were trying to be there till the 30th over. We tried to put up a fight, but again we lost too many wickets”, said Misbah-ul-Haq after the match. “The result hasn’t been great, but the experience in Sri Lanka was”.
Thisara Perera was declared the Man of the Match and Man of the Series.
Sri Lanka also won the series by 2-1. Pakistan won only the first ODI. Pakistan also lost the test series by 2-0.
