Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Addresses Nation over Terrorism

Speaking to the nation after midnight, the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the Peshawar attack and stated that the government will ensure that the menace of terrorism is eradicated from the country.

In the speech, which was broadcasted on national television, the Prime Minister said, “the Peshawar atrocity has changed Pakistan, we need to eradicate the mindset of terrorism to defeat extremism and sectarianism”.

“This horrendous attack has shaken the nation…the terrorists struck the future of this country when they murdered those children. A strong action is needed to root out the menace of extremism from society,” he further added.

According to Mr. Nawaz, the political parties in the country have reached a consensus regarding the security situation and are going to set up military tribunals to dispense with such cases.

The need for use of technology to control terrorism and prevent militant groups from using the internet and social channels to spread their word was also stressed upon by the PM.

He also spoke about the role NACTA can play along with steps like regularization of madrassas and sending back Afghan refugees, to curb militancy in the country.
