Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Affairs advisor to the Prime Minister made a statement in response to US President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address where he said that Pakistan and Afghanistan will face turmoil and instability for decades to come.

Responding to Mr. Obama’s predictions Mr. Aziz said during a breakfast meeting with Chinese scholars, and other dignitaries that

“Whatever the US president said about instability in Pakistan and Afghanistan are his predictions and have nothing to do with realities on the ground.”

The context of Mr. Obama’s statement was in the form of a warning to US lawmakers that unless they backed his administration’s efforts to combat Isis, the terrorist organization will continue to spread havoc in the Middle East and closer to home.

Mr. Obama stressed the need to put the situation into perspective and understand that Isis is far from an existential threat to the U.S. however, there is a great risk that countries such as Pakistan will become “safe haven for terrorists, or become victims of ethnic conflict……….. or feeding the next wave of refugees”.

Mr. Aziz reiterated that “Pakistan is taking decisive action against terrorism and militancy and in days to come we will witness more stability here”.

Mr. Aziz added that Pakistan is also putting efforts into peace in Afghanistan.

Mr. Aziz also answered questions about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He Said Pakistan will foil all sinister designs against this project. CPEC said Aziz, will be a great investment in the infrastructure development of Pakistan.
