Tehran Investigating Whether Yadav Crossed Border Illegally

Iran has made it known to Pakistan that it is investigating whether an Indian spy arrested last month in Balochistan crossed the border illegally or had been picked up on its soil.

Kulbhushan Yadav, a RAW agent, had been arrested on March 3rd and had been deployed in Iran’s Chabahar port before entering Balochistan to meet some separatist leaders.

The matter was handled on a recent visit to Islamabad by the Iranian President Hassan Rowhani and Army chief General Raheel Sharif. Also the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan discussed the issue with the Iranian Ambassador, Mehdi Honardoost in a meeting held last week.

Iranian authorities, according to sources, have both indirectly and directly revealed to Pakistan their intentention to investigate whether Yadav entered Pakistan illegally or otherwise.

India, however, has claimed that Yadav was caught on Iranian soil and is exerting pressure on the Republic to form a case against Pakistani agencies.

India has sought the support of the United States, the United Kingdom and France to urge Iran to stick to its claim that Yadav was captured on Iranian soil, according to sources.

New Delhi has threatened Tehran to choose between Pakistan and India, leaving the state (Tehran, Iran) in a dilemma.

The Special Economic Zone in Chabahar, a port partially built by New Delhi is a firm receiver of billions of rupees made by India in investments. The port which is situated in the Gulf of Oman, grants India access to Afghanistan and Central Asia, circumventing Pakistan. India also gets almost all of its oil from Iran.

World powers including the US and UK have received evidence from Pakistan regarding Yadav’s arrest but have failed to respond. Ironically, such world powers were quick to act when India came forward regarding the January 2 terrorist attack on the Pathankot airbase. India blamed Jaish-e-Muhammad militant group which is based in Pakistan for executing the deadly attack that eliminated six of India’s servicemen.

Lieutenant General Asim Salim Bajwa, the chief military spokesperson mentioned at a news briefing in the previous week that Pakistan has ‘irrefutable evidence’ of Yadav entering Balochistan from Iran. According to sources, Pakistan would not hesitate to present the evidence to the whole world, should Iran decide to side with India.

Iran enquired about the exact timing of Yadav’s arrest which without much hassle, provided to them. It suspected that Yadav had gone missing for a few months and not since March 3rd, which is the supposed date that Pakistan claimed he was arrested.
