Incriminating evidence emerges in Axact scandal

After months of hiatus, the Axact fake-degree scandal, is again making headlines as incriminating evidence against the owners of the company has been found by authorities. It has been reported that the name ‘Ryan Jones’, used in different documents of offshore companies and in correspondence between lawyers and fictitious universities, is that of Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh, who is the owner of Axact.

The Axact scandal emerged last year, in connection with providing fake university degrees to thousands of students worldwide. Initially, Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh denied any link with the degree mill, but now it seems that he can no longer deny such strong evidence against him.

The Federal Investigation Authority, (FIA) has been on the case since the time it emerged, but this is the first time that such a strong link has been established. Sheikh has also deposited a sworn affidavit before an American court in which he acknowledges the ownership of three offshore companies. He had been denying the ownership of these companies in front of the Pakistani courts.

According to the details provided, the fact that Sheikh had been using the pseudonym, Ryan Jones, has been clearly established through digital forensics. An agreement between Sheikh and his US lawyer also shows that he signed above the name of ‘Ryan Jones’. This particular document was in connection with a request that his name be cleared in a visa security clearance at the US embassy. A letter addressed to Ryan Jones, was also sent to Sheikh’s address of DHA Phase VII, Karachi.

So far there has been no explanation or comment from Shoaib Sheikh’s lawyers, regarding this evidence. Sheikh himself is imprisoned since May, 2015, and is awaiting his fate as the case unfolds further.
