The 5-year-old Afghani boy who became famous for wearing a Messi football shirt made out of plastic bag, has been forced to move out of his home country. Murtaza Ahmadi and his family had to leave Afghanistan because they were constantly getting threats and life had become difficult there.

According to the boy’s father, Mohammad Arif Ahmadi, they were forced to move to Pakistan because people were after his boy’s life and he had to move for the safety of his family. Initially they moved to the capital city of Islamabad but the living expenses were too much to bear. Eventually, the family moved to Quetta and they are hoping for a better life there.

“I sold all my belongings and brought my family out of Afghanistan to save my son’s life as well as the lives of the rest of the family,” the father said.

Speaking to reporters over the phone from Quetta, Ahmadi said that they did not want to leave Afghanistan, but the threats were getting serious with every passing day. He said that he feared Murtaza would get kidnapped after he became an internet sensation.

Murtaza’s pictures went viral over the internet after he was seen playing football in a homemade Argentina shirt made from plastic bag with No. 10 and Messi written on the back.

Lionel Messi himself took note of Murtaza and appreciated his little fan’s love for football. Messi showed his inclination to meet his fan but things could not work out.
