Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan announced his decision to postpone the anti-corruption rally in Faisalabad which was scheduled to take place on May 8. The PTI chief explained that the reason the rally is being postponed is the women harassment issue which has become a cause of major distress for Khan.

“After assaults on PTI women workers by the ruling party goons, we have lost confidence in Punjab police,” Imran Khan said.

Khan further added that the role of the police is also being investigated and he vowed to get to the root of this problem. He added that once the culprits are found, no one will be sparred even if they belonged to his party.

Khan also highlighted that no such incident took place during the 126 days long protest that took place in Islamabad’s D-chowk in 2014.

Women harassment issues at PTI rallies started coming to the forefront when videos of such unruly behavior made rounds on the internet. The first such incident was reported from PTI’s Foundation Day rally which took place in Islamabad on April 24.

The second and more violent incident was reported from PTI’s Lahore rally which took place on May 1, at Chairing Cross, Lahore. During the incident, PTI workers entered the area which was exclusively reserved for women and started harassing them. Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media and garnered major criticism from people.
